New Buses for East London

Date published: 27/01/2010

New buses are in use or about to come into use from East London Bus Group’s garages at Leyton and West Ham.

Leyton garage is currently taking delivery of 50 new Polish-built Scania Omnicitys for use on routes 48 (London Bridge – Walthamstow Central) and 56 (St Barts Hospital – Whipps Cross), which have new five-year operating contracts awarded by Transport for London.  The buses have a climate control system that is designed to keep the bus at a comfortable temperature in all weathers as well as a number of features designed to keep the buses as “green” as possible using conventional diesel technology.

At West Ham, 14 new ADL Enviro 200 10.2 metre single deck buses are being delivered, adding to 16 acquired last year and used on route D3 (Crossharbour – London Chest Hospital).  The latest additions are for routes 323 (Mile End Stn – Canning Town Stn), which started on 9th January and 488 (Bromley by Bow – Clapton), which is taken over from 27th February.   These last two routes were gained from other operators in a recent round of tendering.
